Deliveries of business jets were flat in the first half of the year, according to the latest figures from the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).

Overall the GAMA data shows that a total of 296 business jets were delivered in the first half, matching the number in the first half of 2017.

But whilst the totals for the half-year periods matched, there were small differences in the delivery numbers by quarters.

In the first quarter of the year there were 132 deliveries, up by two aircraft over 2017. In the second quarter there were 164, down by two deliveries from 2017.

Cirrus began deliveries of its SF50 very-light jet in the second quarter of 2017 when the first two aircraft were delivered. In the first half of this year, the company delivered 25 aircraft, helping the Very Light Jet category to see the biggest percentage rise when compared to the previous year.

The biggest decline was in the bizliner category, with a drop of 33%. Offerings in the sector both from Airbus and from Boeing are in a transitionary period towards newer models, with the ACJ320neo family and the 737 MAX family soon to make their debuts.

Aside from Cirrus, Pilatus and Textron were the only manufacturers that saw an increase in deliveries for the period.

Pilatus began deliveries of its PC-24 earlier in the year, whilst at Cessna a 55% increase in CJ3+ deliveries helped mask a lack of Mustang shipments.
