Falcon 5X set for June 2 roll out

Dassault will roll out its new $45 million Falcon 5X twin-jet at a special ceremony in Bordeaux on June 2.

Announced at the 2013 NBAA show, the Falcon 5X is a twin-engine large cabin business jet that can carry 16 people up to 5,200 nautical miles.

The new aircraft has one of the largest cross-sections of any business jet currently in production, and has a unique skylight in the forward passenger cabin.

Although the first aircraft will officially roll out on June 2, Dassault say that there are currently two completed aircraft that are undergoing ground testing.

The first aircraft, msn 01, powered up for the first time in August 2014 and has recently completed a second engine run up test.

The company say that the first aircraft will take its maiden flight during the summer.

To prepare for the first flight Dassault began simulated flight testing in November 2013 in simulation bench at the company’s design office in St Cloud, France.

Dassault say that the simulated flight testing will cover 60,000 cycles over a series of 28 different mission profiles. Load limit testing will also be conducted, where the company will test the strength of the aircraft by loading it to 1.5x above the design load limit.

“We are pleased with the way ground tests are proceeding,” said Dassault Aviation senior vice president, civil aircraft, Olivier Villa “We are moving ahead with preparations for the first flight and expect the aircraft to take to the air this summer.”
