Marshall Aviation Services is opening a fixed-base operator (FBO) for business aircraft handling at Birmingham Airport in the UK.

The FBO was opened in May 2011 by Eurojet Aviation, along with a maintenance facility run by Eurojet Engineering, which closed last year. At the time of the closure, a spokesman for the company said it was close to signing a deal with a “significant new partner to amalgamate their commercial and operations activities.”

With Marshall acquiring the facility on a long-term lease, Freddie Judge, who previously served as Eurojet Aviation’s FBO manager, will reprise his role, running the the centre’s day-to-day activities as Marshall’s FBO project manager.

Steve Jones, managing director, said: “This new facility is part of our strategic plan to develop a portfolio of services to private aircraft owners – from aircraft sales and management charter through to support refurbishment and upgrades. Our new Birmingham facility will offer first class handling services, accommodating aircraft up to Gulfstream 550 or Global size in the hangar.

“We will also be able to offer line support capabilities all Textron family (Cessna, Hawker and Beechcraft) and Bombardier Global or Challenger models in the near term, as the future market demands.”

The FBO will be overseen Pauline Smith, who held senior FBO roles at ExecuJet in Dubai, Harrods Aviation in London Stansted and DhabiJet in Abu Dhabi before joining Marshall in 2012.

The facility will include crew rest areas, flight planning rooms, prayer room and visitor or residential crew offices. It is believed that FlairJet, which handles aircraft operations, charter and management on behalf of Marshall will also have a presence at the facility.

Melanie Cameron, Birmingham Airport’s head of property, said: “The arrival of Marshall Aviation Services at Birmingham Airport is great news. It is a very exciting time for us, with record passenger numbers and the recent completion of a multi-million pound redevelop programme to allow for the growth of our long-haul route network so we are delighted to welcome the Marshalls’ team this year. The new operation will provide first class facilities for airlines and passengers, and aviation business services that are much needed in the Midlands to support the thriving local economy.”

The opening of Marshall’s facility will take the number of FBOs in Birmingham up to a total of three, with Signature Flight Support and Blue City Aviation already based at the airport.

Marshall built a similar FBO terminal at Cambridge International Airport in 2006 – where it is based – but leased the facility to ExecuJet in 2011.
