UK air ambulance operator Air Medical Ltd, which traded as Air Med, has entered administration.

AirMed operated two Learjet 35s and PA-42 Cheynne aircraft that had been converted into air ambulances. The company was founded more than 30 years ago and was based at London Oxford Airport.

“The AirMed development was expected,” said one competitor. “They were too small to survive in this niche market.”

The operator filed a notice of intention to appoint an administrator on January 19, 2016.

“Directors and shareholders have invested very significant sums into AirMed whilst new investors have been sought but due to the absence of additional resources the Directors have had no choice but to apply for administration,” said the company in a statement.”

“The Board wants to convey how deeply sorry they are to everyone who has been affected by this heartbreaking decision. AirMed only existed due to its incredibly passionate, compassionate and highly talented team.”
