Farnborough Airport at NBAA 2019

Farnborough Airport will be attending the NBAA-BACE 2019 being held at Las Vegas nextweek from 22nd to 24th October 2019.

Farnborough Airport is Europe’s leading business aviation airport, a key gateway to London and the first business aviation airport in the world to be awarded carbon neutral status. The airport offers bespoke services as well as state-of-the-art facilities and continues to set new standards in the business aviation market.

Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets acquires Farnborough Airport

Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (“MIRA”), via Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 6 (“MEIF6”), has acquired Farnborough Airport from a consortium of private investors.

Brandon O’Reilly, CEO of Farnborough Airport, said: “The significant investment that has occurred at Farnborough Airport over the past two decades under the previous shareholders has been transformative. With a number of development projects already underway, we are excited to partner with Macquarie to further develop our offering to the business aviation market.”

MIRA is a leading global investor in airport infrastructure and FBO facilities, with approximately 72 million passengers using MIRA-managed airports each year. MIRA-managed funds are invested in 12 commercial airports across Europe and Australia, and 68 FBO facilities across the United States.

Macquarie has had a presence in the UK for 30 years, opening its London headquarters in 1989. Today, Macquarie is one of the largest investors in the UK, having invested and arranged more than £40 billion in infrastructure projects since 2005.

Farnborough Airport sees record demand in 2019

Farnborough Airport is a growing business aviation airport serving customers from around the world. The airport has seen significant growth throughout 2019 and last month was the busiest September on record, with air traffic movements up by over 17 per cent compared with last year. For air traffic to and from the U.S. and Canada in particular, movements saw an increase of 19 per cent for the first nine months of 2019, compared with the same period in 2018.

Farnborough Airport currently handles over 30,000 flights per year and is equipped to cater for a wide range of aircraft types, including Boeing Business Jets and Airbus Corporate Jets.  As the only dedicated business aviation airport in the UK, it is specifically designed to offer a one-stop shop for business aviation operators and with 240,000 sq ft of climate-controlled hangar facilities and 1.2m sq ft of ramp space can accommodate both based and transient aircraft.

Farnborough Airport wins the 2019 IEMA Sustainability Impact Award for Energy and Carbon Transition

Farnborough Airport has been named the winner in the Energy and Carbon Transition category at the newly launched IEMA Sustainability Impact Awards 2019, recognising the airport’s achievements in energy efficiency and carbon management.

The Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) is the largest professional body for environmental practitioners in the UK and worldwide, with nearly 15,000 members.

In 2018, Farnborough Airport became the first business aviation airport in the world to achieve carbon neutrality and since then has continued to make further substantial reductions in its carbon footprint. With a 73% reduction in emissions under the airport’s direct control, carbon offsetting for the last year totalled 1,605 tonnes.

Underscoring its more recent work to address environmental impact beyond its direct control, Farnborough Airport hosted “Fuelling the Future” in May this year, a Sustainable Alternative Jet Fuel initiative in support of alternative fuels for use in the aviation industry. The airport continues to work with industry partners to promote and facilitate this initiative and is a co-sponsor of the Sustainable Jet Fuel panel discussion event at this year’s NBAA.

Farnborough Airport has once again earned top honours in the annual Aviation International News (AIN) International FBO Survey for 2019, ranking first in the ‘Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific’ category for the 13th consecutive year. For the 14th year in a row, the airport was also named ‘Best European FBO’ in the 2019 Pro Pilot PRASE Survey. “These results are a tribute to the high level of professionalism and dedication of all our staff at Farnborough,” said Brandon O’Reilly, CEO Farnborough Airport.  “Following the significant investment to upgrade our terminal facilities, our focus continues to be on delivering the highest standard of service for customers and crew.”
