Gama Aviation is to move its Farnborough and Oxford maintenance operations to a new 135,000 sq.ft secure facility at Bournemouth International Airport.

The move, which is expected to take place in the second half of 2018, will almost double the capacity of company’s maintenance facilities in the UK.

Gama says that the move will enable it to expand its European ground business which grew by 20% in 2017.

“To support the continuing growth of our high-performing UK maintenance business we are investing in a flagship maintenance facility to provide the capacity for maintaining all types and sizes of business aircraft for European clients,” said Neil Medley, group chief operation officer, Gama Aviation. “This will in turn allow the growth and development of our talented pool of engineers, as we add a range of new capabilities to broaden our service offering.”

The company will fund the $2 million restructuring costs from operational cashflow, with the cash costs expected to be offset by the end of 2019 thanks to a rent-free period in the new facility, as well as capital contributions by the new landlord.

Steve Rigby, chief operating officer of Bournemouth Airport’s owners, the Rigby Group, welcomes GAMA’s move saying: “We are delighted to welcome Gama Aviation to Bournemouth International Airport. This move will create a major new facility for business aviation as a core component of the strategic development of the airport.”
