Patrick Hansen: the empire builder

Patrick Hansen is No. 7 on the Corporate Jet Investor Power List 2015.

Operator consolidation has been a hot topic in the business jet industry since it started to slow down a few years ago – and no operator has approached opportunities for acquisition with as much fervour as Patrick Hansen’s Luxaviation.

Barely a year ago, Luxviation was little more than an obscure Luxembourg-based operator, but following its acquisition of Unijet in France, Abelag in Belgium and FairJets in Germany, it leapfrogged its competitors to become the third biggest operator in Europe, following NetJets Europe and TAG Aviation.

It wasn’t until the take-over of London Executive Aviation, however, that the full extent of Hansen’s ambition became apparent. The deal grew Luxaviation’s fleet to 90 aircraft and increased it payroll to 470 employees.

Throughout the rest of 2014, the ambitious company continued its spending spree, adding Paris-based Masterjet to its portfolio. Hansen, an ex-banker and prolific entrepreneur, has showed no signs of slowing down either, announcing plans to acquire even more operators from both Europe and Asia in 2015.
