Qatar Executive is the Gulfstream G700 launch customer

Qatar Executive, the private-aviation division of Qatar Airways, is the launch customer for the new Gulfstream G700.

The Doha-based operator was revealed as the launch customer during the 2019 National Business Aviation Administration Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Las Vegas. The announcement came as Gulfstream was unveiling the G700 in its own press conference at the show.

Qatar Executive has ordered 10 Gulfstream G700s to complement its existing fleet of G650ERs and G500s.

“Qatar Executive demonstrated their confidence in Gulfstream when they committed as international launch customer for the G500, which is in service with them now alongside the G650ER,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream Aerospace. “We are grateful they have chosen to continue growing their Gulfstream fleet with our new flagship G700 and look forward to their customers traveling in the utmost comfort on the largest business jet in the industry.”

Qatar Executive placed its first order with Gulfstream in October 2014. Up until that point it had operated an all-Bombardier build fleet. The Gulfstream order was for up to 20 aircraft, split between the G500 and G650ER. The following May it ordered another 10 aircraft.

The latest new aircraft order comes at a time that Qatar Executive is in expansion mode. Earlier in the year it announced that it would open new sales offices in London, Moscow and Shanghai – three cities in which, it says, it has seen the most demand.

During an interview with CJI earlier in 2019, Ettore Rodaro, executive vice president of Qatar Executive, said that approximately 70% of the operator’s flights took place outside of its home region.

At the time Rodaro also addressed rumours of the G700, saying “If such a product does come out, then definitely. Qatar Airways is famous for always following the latest and greatest trends.”
Although no details were given abut the first delivery to Qatar, Gulfstream’s timeline for the G700 calls for initial customer deliveries in 2022.

“We are excited to be the launch customer of the G700, the largest business jet in the industry, and are looking forward to the aircraft joining our fleet,” said His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, group CEO of Qatar Airways. “Qatar Executive’s customers have extremely high standards, and this aircraft will help us meet their requirements by delivering unrivalled performance that complements our excellence in customer service.”
