Robert Molsbergen: the global manager

Robert Molsbergen is No. 5 on the Corporate Jet Investor Power List 2015.

NetJets naturally retrenched during the downturn. But 2014 was an exciting year for NetJets, particularly for its Executive Jet Management business – which continued to grow in Europe and the US – as well as the launch of NetJets China.

It is the China operations that stand out as something to watch in 2015, as the company decided to focus on aircraft management and charter, rather than the fractional operations that it is mostly known for. Although it is also expanding its new European business fast.

Robert Molsbergen, a Dutch national, took over the role of chief operating office in January 2014 and told Corporate Jet Investor at NBAA 2014 that NetJets’ entry into China had been planned for several years; he admitted that NetJets had chosen charter and management as China is not quite ready for fractional operations.

Based at Zhuhai in southern China’s Guangdong province, NetJets China’s proximity to the megacities of Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shenzhen should supply a steady stream of charter requests, as well as a large pool of aircraft to target for management.

However, aircraft management is becoming increasing competitive in China, with both Deer Jet and Minsheng leaning heavily in that direction, so NetJets will be hoping that it’s their name that gives them an added advantage.
